T1 Eucalyptus Subject to submitting a new TPO application, the following works would be acceptable in principle. These would remove or reduce a small number of primary branches to increase the separation between the crown and the building beyond the 2- 3 m clearance currently provided. Reduce the lowest primary branch at approx. 5 m above ground level, extending east from 8m to 5m. Remove three primary branches extending south-east to east at approx. 7, 8 & 9m above ground level. Deadwood may be removed throughout the crown, with consent from the council being required.

T1 Monterey cypress: Selectively prune branches placing tension on the overhead telecommunications cable, cutting back to suitable lateral growth points and providing approximately 1 m clearance. Crown lift the road-facing crown to provide 5.2 m vertical clearance above the carriageway, measured from the road surface to the lowest remaining branch or foliage. Crown lifting should preferentially involve the shortening or removal of secondary branches. All pruning shall comply with BS 3998:2010. T2 Beech: Selectively prune branches contacting and placing tension on the overhead telecommunications cable, cutting back to suitable lateral growth points and providing approximately 1 m clearance. Avoid excessive crown thinning, indiscriminate reduction and unnecessary large-diameter pruning wounds. Retain the tree?s natural crown form. All pruning shall comply with BS 3998:2010. T3, T4 and T5 Pines: Fell to ground level. Entirely dead. Dead crown, no live foliage and clear evidence of total physiological failure. Retain the stumps. No stump grinding, as this would risk damaging the roots of neighbouring Scots Pines of the same species.

Consent was granted under application reference AT/2023/0008; however, the approved tree works were not undertaken. Ash T1 fell to near-ground level. The slender tree shows symptoms consistent with Ash Dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus), including crown thinning, deadwood, and progressive structural decline. Sycamore T2 Fell. A Tree Preservation Order was made in 1984. The current dimensions suggest the tree became established after that date, so the proposed felling can be considered. Mixed species G1 Fell. A Tree Preservation Order was made in 1984. The current dimensions suggest the trees became established after that date, so the proposed felling can be considered.

T001 - Mature Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Observations: Mature beech with a substantial fungal fruiting body present at the base of the stem, visually consistent with Ganoderma spp. Sounding of the lower stem with a sounding mallet produced a pronounced hollow response extending from the base to approximately 2 m above ground level on the road-facing side, indicating potentially significant internal dysfunction and decay within the lower main stem. The defect is located within the tree?s primary load-bearing region, where the main stem transfers crown loading into the root system. Decay or loss of sound wood in this area is therefore considered structurally significant. The full extent of internal decay and remaining residual wall thickness could not be quantified through ground-based inspection alone. The tree supports a large mature crown and is located immediately adjacent to a public highway, with pedestrians, moving and parked vehicles, and nearby residential properties within the potential failure zone. Recommendation: Dismantle T001 to near ground level. The recommendation is based on the presence of basal fungal decay, the pronounced hollow response extending approximately 2 m up the lower stem, and the location of the defect within the principal load-bearing region of the tree. These findings materially reduce confidence in the tree's long-term structural reliability. Although the tree provides significant local amenity value within the Conservation Area, this is considered outweighed by the extent and structural significance of the identified defects and the potential consequences of whole-tree or basal failure onto the adjacent highway and surrounding targets.

Conservation area ref 1972.014 Tree Reference: T1 Magnolia. Proposed Work: Fell, dismantle, and completely remove. Justification Reasons: Proximity: The trunk is growing directly against the external wall of the two-storey house. Light Nuisance: The 5 metre tall and 3 metre canopy spread covers windows and severely restricts natural light. Structural Risk: The root system is right up against the property foundations, creating an immediate concern for structural damage. 10/09/26 Amendment to address further information required. The tree is believed to be no older than 40 years old and therefore not subject to any constraints of the 1972 Tree preservation order. There is no evidence of any previous pruning that may have effected the size of the trunk or rate of growth and no previous applications for work to be carried out on the tree on the planning system.

T1 - Sycamore: The tree has a narrow fork with included bark between the main stems. Branches within the crown show bark stripping consistent with squirrel damage, leaving areas of exposed wood. Deadwood is also lodged within the crown. Felling is proposed due to concerns about the structural condition of the main fork and damaged branches, taking into account the tree's position beside the garden access steps and the potential consequences of falling material for people using this area. The tree is not visible from public viewpoints. T2 - Sycamore: The tree occupies a restricted rooting area adjacent to the wall. Its size and position raise concerns about its anchorage and the potential for whole-tree overturning. Failure of the root plate could displace the adjoining masonry and potentially cause the wall to collapse. Felling is proposed to address these concerns. The tree is not visible from public viewpoints. A Tree Preservation Order was made in 1973. The current dimensions of T1 and T2 suggest they became established after that date; these trees proposed for felling can be considered under a Section 211 conservation-area notification.

T1 - Maple: Re-pollard by removing the regrowth back to the established pollard points, as indicated in red on the accompanying photograph. Retain the existing pollard knuckles and avoid cutting into the main stem or below the established pollard points. T2 - Maple: Crown reduce by up to 2 metres in height and lateral spread due to the tree's declining physiological condition and associated crown dieback. Prune back to suitable live lateral growth points, removing deadwood and retaining a balanced crown with adequate live foliage wherever practicable. The works are intended to reduce mechanical loading while retaining the tree and shall be undertaken in accordance with BS 3998:2010.
